Thanked: 485Renovation Nightmare
My brother has moved in, along with his three pugs. he wants to do up a back room of mine that was built off the garage. My place was originally a shack (it hasn't actually developed from there that much) in the 50's. I hadn't even been in this room for about ten years. How do you think we'll go with this?
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 485Actually, should have said, we came across a possum living in the roof. I tried to catch him and he bit my finger. I think my mother may have been surprised at my language....

Being a Carpenter myself Carl the space certainly as potential, all the walls are in place, you have an excellent climate so things we must deal with in the northern hemisphere such as damp are not an issue, get a good roof on the building, then dry line the building with new insultion, could be a nice little project, or better still turn it into a workshop for razor restoration.

Thanked: 1371It has a certain outdoorsy charm to it.
I say leave it as is. It'll be like having a campout every day.
Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

Thanked: 485Ha! When we took the roof and all the ivy and wisteria off the roof Nick said "I like the light in here". I said "Nick, of course it feel light and airy, there's no roof on it!"
Most interesting finds were my manuals on how to use Surface to Air Missile systems, a launch motor from a missile, dozens and dozens of 'pickaxe' beer bottles (I'd get a dollar for each at the markets I reckon) and 'Possie' possum, who has returned to what was his home this morning.
As you can see we now have the roof off...

I was going to say: Wow, I knew I saw your place before!!
You're really Steve McQueen ("Papillon") on Devils' Island. Wow!!!(:-)
But not sure you'd see my humor.
My garage is ~ 90 yrs old. It had the same flat roof for 80 of those 90yrs. Roofed, reroofed, over and over again. The main task was to take it all off and put up a new one. That was the hardest part. After that it just all started to come together. Good luck.Last edited by Johnus; 02-03-2013 at 12:18 AM.

Thanked: 247Hmm...your opossums aren't as ugly as ours. Seems almost like a pet type animal.
Good luck, and have fun on the reno.

good choice
Good Choice!I lived in a chicken coop one winter. Maybe... better than that. I needed a place and my parents wouldn't let me move back home. In their house. I am turning into my father and understand his thinking!
