Yea did some time in the Grey Funnel Line too. Still like to take a ship (ferries) to get from A to B but a cruise to nowhere does not interest me.

It depends. My definition of an ideal vacation is to be at a place where I have good food, a decent bed and bathroom, and a comfortable chair. That, and a selection of good books. My wife and I once went to tunesia for 8 days after we spent all out leave before that, redecorating our new apartment. Went spent the entire week sitting in a comfortable chair, reading books.

I could do something like that on a cruiseship.
The one thing that would make me hesitant is the risk of shipwide stomach bugs.

If you really want to do it right, go Army and see the world from the back of a truck!

When you are lucky enough to get a truck.

Not for me, thanks, even before all the recent horror stories. I don't like any sort of "canned" experience-give me a rent-a-car (or just my old Jeep), some maps and guidebooks, and my and my family are set to go.
