Thread: Rimfire Ammo Shortage...

I come back to check up on this thread from time to time. Eight months later from the time I started this thread and still no rimfire ammo to be had online or in our local stores. Boy this is some shortage! I don't believe ammo manufacturers have been cranking out rimfire ammo with the same production levels as before this entire time and people have been continually snatching it up all these months. I just don't believe that. It's as if they've stopped making it.

Full shelves here. Walmart is empty but gander is full and bulk is available at fair to good prices

Thanked: 1184It's kind of going underground. I hear people say they can't find anything and it's limited when they do find it. On the other hand I can get anything in any amount anytime. It's who you know. Some are grabbing it like an investment before it gets to the average guy on the street. There are other reasons it's being stockpiled also but lets not go there. :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 480Rim fire is all but extinct in my neck of the woods. I had a large brick sitting on the shelf, I brought it to the local gun shop, and told him to sell it and when they return to the shelf, simply replace it for me. He asked me what else I have, and I wound up providing him with the ONLY box of 30/30 within 40 miles, and the only 2 boxes of 308.
Hunting season is upon us, and there is no ammo to be had anywhere other than the big stores like Gander, and they are charging horribly high prices.
I kept a half box of each, to be sure I have at least something if I need it. Same for some boxes of ACP rounds.
I figure, I don't really need more than a few, and now the local shop has at least a LITTLE ammo on the shelf instead of nothing at all. I like supporting local, and this was the best I could do to help the guy not lose customers.

22LR is available here. In the LGS at inflated prices, like $75 for a brick of 500, or @ $45 for a brick at Gander, also inflated but better than $75. I'm still working through what I stockpiled years ago when prices were normal for the time.

People are still stockpiling like crazy then.
