I started this thread nearly 1 1/2 years ago. It's amazing to me that in my area of Minnesota there's still a rimfire ammo shortage. I don't get to the Gander Mountain much, but each time I do go, I always check the .22 rimfire shelves which have been consistently bare. I was there today and thought that maybe they were keeping rimfire behind the counter or something so I asked. The guy behind the gun counter said they get small shipments in, but it sells out within an hour. I didn't think to ask him until after he was helping others whether or not, out of curiosity on my part, he sees repeat customers (hoarders) consistently buying out the ammo.
I still think there's a shortage since he did not say they get large amounts in regularly. But it appears the problem is exacerbated by hoarding even after this amount of time. Will hoarders be buying out rimfire even a year from now? Have some slipped into some sort of obsessive unbreakable pattern they've been locked into where they've decided to put all of their disposable income into this practice for years and years to come?
Centerfire seems to be pretty decently available in most all calibers, but expensive. My guess is ammo will be like gasoline is now: used to be more reasonable before the great surge in price about 8-9 years ago and it's more or less stayed high ever since.
For a guy that wants to simply buy a few boxes of shorts for close distance varmint control without bothering the neighbors too much, it's really sad and pathetic.
I have some issues with what I consider to be obsessive prepping and hoarding in general, but that a starter for a separate thread...

It is around down here in FL at LGS and gun shows. Premium prices on it though. Like triple what it was before the last couple of shortage scares.

Thanked: 10I've read I think in G&A, that the suppliers or the makers have been holding on to the ammo that they've been making. I guess when they hit a reasonable amount they're going to flood the market. I hope I read the article tight and I hope it's true. I don't buy .22 but hate what I'm paying for .9 & .45 ammo.

22 ammo has loosened up down here quite a bit in the past 6 months,,,you just need to know when & where. The Bass Pro in Dania gets it in almost daily, different configurations & amounts. It comes in early & usually stays on the shelf till 10am. Both Wal Marts get it in regularly, but people with gun show booths use the Wal Mart notification app & it notifies them that that store is receiving that morning, the gun show guys & wives & their friends each get their limit & resale the bricks at the shows for $75.00,,, I seen this many times, the last, about 2 months ago at the show. The friends will get their $23.00 brick, then give it to their friend at the booth for $35.00+ , he then prices it $75.00,,, I stand there & listen to them run their verbal game on a potential buyer, " It's going to dry up , the FEDs are going to ban lead bullets, there may not be anymore for 6 more months, next year it will be $100.00 a brick, so get it while it's cheap, Did you hear Obama's gonna tax bullets out of reach,,,,etc. etc. ,,,,. If your foolish enough to pay $75.00 a brick, then you should not be allowed to have money on you period.
In the past 2 years, there has been an increase in the production & sales of firearms in the 22 caliber. I know 3 families that just got started teaching their kids how to shoot, 22 caliber firearms were their choice.

Friend picked up two bricks of 22LR at the last show for $45.00 each and thought he done good. Other vendors were asking the $75. It is a shame it has come to this. Back when a brick was $20.00 you could go to the range and shoot for relatively cheap. Seems those days are gone.
