When I was younger I had a paper route, and in the early morning in the fall I would head off with a thermos full of hot mulled apple cider.
There was a small peninsula on the old Mill pond, next to the water fall, and across from the historic village.
I would sit on that peninsula and watch the steam rise off the pond, the sun come up and change the color of the world.
Wishing so often that I had someone there to share that flittering moment in time that would never be again.
I would be lulled by the subtle droning of the water fall forever proclaiming of the rivers timeless quest before me.
The birds would sing day’s praise to the breaking sun; a leaf would playfully float down from its perch to rest on the water for a while, tired from its time nurturing the strong Oak as the smell of my spiced cider would fill my nose.
I have chased these moments ever since.
The birds, watching the ants work, to sit and wonder watching the spider finish it's web,
knowing come morning it will shine like a thousand diamonds as the sunlight dances off the dew drops.
It is all these small gifts we are bestowed.
Your right wisdom is gained with age and experience, and material things are of little consequence.
And I really enjoyed your poem as well.Last edited by pfries; 04-14-2013 at 03:02 PM.

Thanked: 485Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 3215Our home backs up to the edge of a state park and we feed birds. One feeder is 4 feet from our kitchen widow, where a variety colorful birds feed in migration.
I am always entertained and saddened, as you are Carl, when visitors see our birds up close, as if it were a new discovery… that surrounds them every day.

Thanked: 1184Wisdom is the mind and spirit in concert.
You are given this capability at birth. From the age of 3 to 5 the spirit is buried by the teachings of your parents, and other influences of the material world. What is put into the forefront of your mind is hunt, gather, survive. You are trained what to like , what to do, what to say, how to be a success in the material world. As you grow older your spirit is buried deeper and deeper by the mind. You are given a calendar and a time piece to watch the minutes in which you have tasks to accomplish. Your entertainment is the competition of man versus man where one is to loose so the other may be the winner. All of this, is for the mind.
You run in this rat race until you grow tired of the competition. When you realize that the enjoyment of the trip is more important than being the first to finish. When you realize by winning, you make another fail. This is when your heart, your spirit , is hurt and you understand the error of your mind. This is when you see that your mind has made you do things to keep you from the happiness of simple pleasures. The things that do your heart good. The things that make you truly happy inside.
To all those that wonder why we are here, and if there is another level to advance to after our energy leaves the material body. I say yes, you have a chance to learn how to get to the next level. You choose this life and time to be here on earth to learn how to advance. You where given the freewill to do as you please and make choices that no other living thing has the power to do. What are you supposed to learn ? Harmony. The harmony of the mind working with the spirit. The harmony of living with all that is natural in this world. The harmony of positive and negative energy that makes up all that is.
Wisdom is the mind in concert with the spirit.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 522On WEEU radio 830 AM in Reading PA, there is a Saturday morning call-in show hosted by a true bird lover, Jack Holcom. The show is called "Jack's Backyard" and people call in from 50 miles around to relate their various bird sightings during the week. Jack is a walking encyclopedia of bird facts.
Very interesting radio program.
