Thanked: 47Cruises
I have been considering going on my first cruise, but with all the troubles the cruise lines have been having in the last few years I am somewhat reluctant. Some people say it is the best time they have ever had and others say it is like being trapped on a prison in the ocean. I was thinking maybe an Alaskan cruise would be pretty cool. So what are your opinions on cruises SRP members? Have any of you gone on one, what was your experience? Any recommendations?

Thanked: 172I've been on about 7, with only one having any problems and that was having an engine fail so we had to miss a port to make the appointment time to go through the Panama Canal.
The wife and I really like them. Even had a transatlantic with 6 days at sea.

My wife has been on a few with friends. They are not my cup of tea. If I wanted to go on a cruise it would be on a cargo vessel that takes passengers. Cruises are for folks who like the entertainment and the food and activities and the luxury of it all.

I did a Scandinavian cruse - It had everything but a seeming place to hide. I felt trapped. Wasn't for me BUT... if you have kids, I hear Disney has awesome cruses that lets parents off the hook with babysitting and the like! That's tempting for any parent .

Just pack a little precautionary "Cruise Kit"
1. Some gallon plastic baggies to crap in.
2. Wet wipes & Purell to get the crap residue off your hands(There will be no running water.)
3. Half a dozen candles, for when the lights go out. (Don't forget a lighter.)
4. A few packs of Ramen noodles.(Throw in a little soy sauce packet, you'll think your eating Chinese.)
5. A Cross pen, a Manga magazine & a roll of electrical tape, build yourself a shank to protect your Ramen noodle stash. (You can't bring your own weapons on the cruise.)
6. Sunscreen lotion, SPF 50+(You will be spending your days on the deck,
(No power =No A/C)
7. A large plastic garbage bag to trap rainwater to drink. (Pray for rain everyday!! )
8. A bottle of Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil,,,etc..) to treat fever & headaches
9. A little note pad & pen, to right down details for your civil suit.
(Should you make it back.)
All these items should fit nicely in a small hand bag.Last edited by Hirlau; 05-15-2013 at 08:52 PM.

I cruised around South America and throughout the Mediterranean, but I couldn't recommend it. At the time I was wearing a dixie cup on my head and all of my trousers were bell bottoms. Of course it was an all-expense paid journey, so I guess I can't complain.
