A question about Private Property

I think the "make it look like a driveway" guys are on to something. A gate with an overhead beam might do the job. You'd need a few signs, of course - too many and their poor little minds will be overwhelmed and they will read none of them. Perhaps just three or four signs reading "Private Drive", "Keep Out", "Beware of the Stobar", etc would do it. You might find that you don't need to close the gate. If they are still dumb enough to wander on in, contact me and I'll arrange for them to get Texas drivers licenses.

I have been on roads in South Dakota that are public roads but with gates across them. Perfectly legal to open the gate to go through and proper etiquette to close them after!

How about a sign saying "Beyond this point a toll charge of $50.00 will be collected
to exit." On the side of the road have signs reading " Do not back up!!!! Tire damage will occur!!!"

Make sure to have the signs read at the bottom "GSSIXGUN TOLL COLLECTOR"

I agree with the open Gate, and signage at the top that says, private road & property. I would guess that most people mean no harm, and no disrespect to you, as I think privacy is a realtivley new thing to most people today. As humans, curiousty can get the best of us, we have to know where it goes.

This is how I see it , as I put myself in the scenario you described. I read the signs to mean the wooded property on the sides of the road. If I got turned down the road from the beginning & saw your neighbor's houses being accessed by your road, I would have assumed the county owned that road & kept driving, looking for a way out. :shrug:

Then again,,,the literacy rate for us boys in South Florida, ain't much higher than Idaho. :D :rofl2:

I know it's a hassle but I'd install a gate right at the beginning of the private road. I guess you wouldn't be able to padlock it as your friends would all need a key, but it would make it obvious. Having said that, I climb over gates and fences all the time when I'm in the bush, but we have less guns here so it's less dangerous to do so :-)

Not sure but I think one of Glen's issues with installing a gate is the 4' of snow that will be drifted up against it come winter.

Sort of on topic ....... living in an urban area one thing that gets my goat is those who don't have the courtesy to park, get out of the car, go ring the doorbell or knock on the door. They seem to think that honking the horn to announce their arrival is not impolite. Even worse are those driving around with the high end bass amps that vibrate through everything for 100 yards. There has to be a special circle in hades for those people.

If the gate gets left open, it's no big deal.

What I am thinking is more just a visual cue that the road is private.

Yeah beginning to think at least an Ranch Arch with side fencing going to either side to delineate my property from the road itself, I could always add a gate, but honestly Jimmy's guess of 4 ft is a very mild winter :)
Perhaps a sign that simply states "Private Property, NO Public Access Beyond this Point"
Guess I have to spend the money, or deal with the morons
