    I forgot to mention that in my OP... After I polished it to mirror, I gave it a heavy coat of Birchwood Casey Perma-Blue and then after it dried, buffed again with white rouge. This left a very mild darkening of the steel, much like a light age patina. The darkening is so mild that you barely notice it. Too dark and it looks done on purpose.
