Gettin' by with a little help from my Friends!
I love to restore, but admittedly am pretty much a "hammer and screwdriver" guy!
I would like to share an old razor I have had for a while which was discussed in this thread: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...n-salford.html I gleaned a good bit of knowledge of it and was happy as my friend Neil Miller came onboard to solve the maker question as he does so often.
Another fine friend, Darl (Tarkus) has been making some outstanding scales and wanted a victim for some honey horn. I sent him the blade and he had come up with an idea of making a paper cutout of the blade and of different scales so he could lay them on a lighted panel to see what looked best! We both decided that the W&B style looked pretty darn nice, so he made these scales and lead wedge and pinned them on in a fine manner! (my pinning now sucks!)
The featured brush was turned by another friend, Bill (Pixelfixed) of African Blackwood with 440 stainless trim and an ivory inlay on the base. The knot is a 2 band badger, set nice and low like I like them!
I DID manage to hone the razor myself! It shaves like a dream and the brush performs brilliantly.
Thanks Friends! I owe you all some serious "hammer and screwdriver" work! Tom"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Well, I know what I like and I like these scales, Darl! We have fun cobbing stuff together. You, with your mathmatical skills and full machine shop and me, with my hammer and screwdriver! HAR! If you have em, show the folks that scale to blade setup. It was so cool to see the possible profiles!
Thanks!

Thanked: 498It was either a standard traditional scale shape or a F.B.U. shape. I thought the F.B.U. just fit that blade like a glove. My paper templates helped Tom in picking the shape. I was concerned how transparent the scales will be. Before pining I scuffed up the inside to try to haze them a bit to obscure some transparency a tad. And needed to fabricate a stainless pivot pin bushing for the hole that Mr. Wigan put in was as big and square as a bloody house. Like I said earlier a real fun project.
This shape below didnt make the cut...

Thanks, Darl! Now go hit the link in the OP and learn the history! Petty made the blade, sold by Hall, who was in Wigan! (buy 'em books, send 'em to school. They eat the covers off the books!)
Har?
