Thanked: 44Congrats on being the owner of the DS. I agree I diverged quite a bit from the original goal, and the final piece really has nothing to do with the Dragon Slayer at all. I think the DS design can still make an interesting nonfolding razor, but when I got into imperious designer frenzy mode, I didn't have the self control to stay on that track.
There are a few other ideas I cooked up, but haven't sought out makers for them and can't afford to anyway. Oh well.

I generally don't spend a lot of time looking at kamasori style razors. I like the simplicity of the Iwasaki and the color in the steel. I acknowledge ergonomics as extremely important. Most importantly, this was a cool thread....so you are not supposed to say anything bad in these threads....but I'll try not to sound too harsh, and I don't mean this as a criticism but the handle end of your razor makes me think of tableware. I dig all the complexity in the area behind the edge, just that tableware end. I am guessing that it adds to the stability in hand but wonder?

Thanked: 44I don't mind. The handle flare's connection to tableware is indirect; it is an approach to achieve balance for both the eye and hand. I suspect good silverware has been produced with similar considerations in mind, making this a case of convergent evolution, rather than imitation.
I'm not sure it would be taken as offensive; though perhaps mundane today, cutlery as a skilled craft has been around quite a long time.
I could have perhaps done a downturned or asymmetrical style like with knives and hatchet handles, but did not this time, though I had experimented with it. I just never liked the way they came out. If I get a next time, I'll explore that space a little more.
Thanks for the observation, even if that aspect of the razor isn't your cuppa.
