Torrey with MOP tang
Such a pretty razor. Had some issues along the spine near the tip. OK. Some pitting on the collar near the tang covers. I can deal with it. Loose MOP tang covers. Well I had my hunches about that. But low and behold it was a bit more than I expected.
I removed the rust once the tang covers were off . I then Metal prepped the surface and gave it two coats of Poly to try and seal the surface. Put the covers back on after turning down some 1/16th rod as these silver pins are quite thin.
I also turned down some washers to match the originals on the scales. Got the blade finished off , honed ( great shaver too) and she was on her way back home.
But in the second shot, that looks like Gold to me. I believe the tang was plated. This was the only area which makes sense since it was directly over the pivot hole and protected by the scales wherever you moved them. This stuff didn't stick around very long.
And the shots of the surface under the MOP,, kinda' makes your stomach queasy doesn't it? And together the entire blade looked quite nice!

Thanks for doing that one Mark! Excellent job as always. I have one of it's twin sisters sitting here in my queue just waiting for someone to fix one up so I can see what they did. Now I have to actually get to it!

I want to eventually do an MOP tang and put some red/black Kentucky agate to use but I'm still new to restores and I think way too far into the future. Your work is crazy good, beautiful razor!
