wow, it turned out really nice, especially when I think of the plastic scales (I have one as well).. I think mine is a bit mis-grind and tends to hit the scales, I think I might try sth like you did one day.
When I had to straighten a tail of an old sheffield I sunk it in a beaker of water leaving out the tail and a little of the tang, heated it to a mild red colour and straightend it with out any big effort (If I remember correctly I was inspired by Charlies' video tutorial, but since I didn't have no heat sink paste I improvised and made a watery sink )
