Default Concave razor Can anyone identify it?

    Hi,

Some time ago I bought an old, rather unusual straight razor.
5/8", 1/2 Hollow Ground. A bit rusty, lots of black oxydation.
Blond horn scales but quite rotten.

There is no name on the tang, only the inscription Concave Razor. Above it, hardly visible,
letters VR (Victoria Regina) or WR (William Rex). Between the letters, a shadow of a crown,
typical for Sheffield razors. Searching the web, I've seen similar blades, apparently made by J. Elliot.

Please have a look at the pictures.

Funny thing. I have been discussing a razor I have with Voidmonster (and maybe he will come along) but check out the profile of the tang. I can find no info and I HAVE a name :<0)

He was guessing early 1800's to mid and maybe London. Yours looks like an Eliot he has. At any rate the tangs look a lot alike.

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

That's a neat blade pups. Those anomalies in old Sheffield razors is exactly what I live for in this hobby. Glad such a unique piece found a good home.

Lots of old makers did this. An old pair, the Geo. Hammond WR was originally done and the Dublin-dealt one has been modded and is a very old replacement.
