Thanked: 61lipstick on a pig: black on black... cheapy razor in black horn
There is a competition on another forums to turn a crappy razor into something nice
Here Is my entry into the GD competition
Haven't decided a name... either "back in black" or "black lotus"
Couple things learned is that some blueing processes are better than others where others are more durable than other and some finish more even than others... but no one process is perfect
I didn't make this razor to win the competition, I made it because this is what I wanted
Black horn with blue acrylester wedge... cheap razor reground
It may be an nice looking razor and gave an dfs shave but its still no match to my wackers, filis etc...

You did a good job of it! A really good job - congrats! It's too bad its on a razor you're not going to love (though its good practice). I blued a... dang I can't remember what it's called anymore, but after the corrosive smell dissipated, I learned to love the black blade!
I think I'll pull it out for tomorrows shave now that I think about it!
*Edit* if you know what this blade IS called, please keep it to yourself LOL! I know what it's called -> and have been appropriately ribbed because of it already!Last edited by earcutter; 01-20-2014 at 03:42 AM.

No Mine is no 8/8 Fili either lol - its actually a shorty. And being a shorty hides the fact that it's a mere 4/8.
Anyway I did it using a kit from Brownells. I can't see where you live so I'll say its a gun supply store. Any gun supply store will have bluing equipment. And if you are really thinking about it, google cold bluing. Hot bluing would destroy the blade. I think.
Oh and do it in the heat of summer. It takes better in the heat I think. You certainly need to do it outdoors or in a WELL ventilated area.
How did you do it and with what Heespharm?Last edited by earcutter; 01-20-2014 at 04:06 AM.

Thanked: 61There's a thread on this forums that involves a process used by a sword maker... I just followed the steps in the thread... I have used brownells in the past... My next blued blade I think I'll stick with the birchwood Casey kit... It's more consistent and end product looks nicer
