Default lipstick on a pig: black on black... cheapy razor in black horn

There is a competition on another forums to turn a crappy razor into something nice

Here Is my entry into the GD competition

Haven't decided a name... either "back in black" or "black lotus"

Couple things learned is that some blueing processes are better than others where others are more durable than other and some finish more even than others... but no one process is perfect

I didn't make this razor to win the competition, I made it because this is what I wanted

Black horn with blue acrylester wedge... cheap razor reground

It may be an nice looking razor and gave an dfs shave but its still no match to my wackers, filis etc...

You did a good job of it! A really good job - congrats! It's too bad its on a razor you're not going to love (though its good practice). I blued a... dang I can't remember what it's called anymore, but after the corrosive smell dissipated, I learned to love the black blade!

I think I'll pull it out for tomorrows shave now that I think about it!

*Edit* if you know what this blade IS called, please keep it to yourself LOL! I know what it's called -> and have been appropriately ribbed because of it already!

No Mine is no 8/8 Fili either lol - its actually a shorty. And being a shorty hides the fact that it's a mere 4/8.

Anyway I did it using a kit from Brownells. I can't see where you live so I'll say its a gun supply store. Any gun supply store will have bluing equipment. And if you are really thinking about it, google cold bluing. Hot bluing would destroy the blade. I think.

Oh and do it in the heat of summer. It takes better in the heat I think. You certainly need to do it outdoors or in a WELL ventilated area.

How did you do it and with what Heespharm?

Your customized Black Ninja GD is wickedly beautiful. It probably gives a good shave too if it's like my GD that takes and holds a good edge. I have a standard 6/8 GD 208 that was honed by a local honemeister. I was a new straight shaver, shaving with a Feather Artist Club SS kamisori style razor for 6 months. My heavy 6/8 GD 208 was the first real straight razor that I ever used. It's still in my rotation and shaves as well as my several new Dovo's and vintage razors that I later acquired. It's fit and finish is rather crude in the shoulder areas but the steel near the edge must be very thin and hard because the blade "sings" with a high pitched tone when I pluck it with my fingernail. My 6/8 Dovo doesn't sing when plucked. Sometimes I deliberately shave with it to remind myself that shaving is a rather primitive endeavor that simplifies down to soap, water and a sharp metal blade irrespective of pretty gold washes and exotic scales. Grab a hunk of sharpened steel and glide it down your face. Ahhhhh ...That's shaving.

Thanks... Yeah this is the third gd in my 48 razor rotation... It's a good shaver but I think the cheapness of the shave is why people are wowed by it.... I'll take my wacker or my fili or friodur any day of the week over this one... Just a better keenness and edge ... Now is it 300 dollars worth of a better edge... To me? Yes but to others... No
