    Default Boker Damascus restore

Well...my first full restore...Finished working the scales into their form...will hit with finer grits tomorrow as well as post the razor. Will update as I go. First scales I have ever made.....all I used was a hack saw and 80 grit sand paper so far. Lots of work leaving a wedge lol....

I really need a belt sander....but I enjoy seeing the handles come together, wood is poplar, didnt want to toast some expensive wood on my first try so hand picked some cheaper wood with a nice looking grain.

Nice work - I'll be interested to see how the integral wedge turns out - looks good so far.

Its definitely going to take some fine tuning, figured what the hey though since the stock I started with was 1/4" thick and I was gonna have to sand anyways, used the hacksaw and notched a few lines to leave space for hand sanding and not messing up the wedge area.

You have a great start with a beautiful pick for the scales.

Thanks, I like it and cost me 96 cents plus tax for enough wood to make two sets lol

    Looking good.
For what it's worth, i only use a coping saw, files and sand/wetdry papers and micromesh to make my scales.
Power equipment can be good, but it can also magnify any mistakes a hundredfold in a split second. Hand tools = control.
Just my 2cents worth and your results are great.
    Regards,
    Adam

Hmm-I've got some nice rosewood scale blanks about 1/4" thick. I was going to go with brass, but that integral wedge is an interesting idea. I've seen it on some plastic scales, don't know that I've ever encountered it on wood?

Id say you rarely see it on wood because its hard to get the scales flat beside the spacer, its been tough but almost finished, just hit it with 2k grit and had a bite to eat, results coming soon
