Thanked: 10Duck soup
Tried a new, to me, scale material. Kirinite. Very nice to work with. I replaced the paper micarta scales on a Dubl Duck Special No. 1. A sacrilegious non-traditional result. I saved the paper micarta scales if I need to make a retreat.

Thanked: 1185No retreat, No surrender. It's your Duck now :<0) Looks good. I have a piece of Kirinite and haven't used it because it got soft and supple in the shop on a hot day. It kind of melted over as it was not sitting flat. I heated it back up and flattened it out but never used it for that reason. It never gets that hot in my house so I should give it a shot sometime.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Hey guys I am curious where you get this material? Also how hard is it to work with. I want to try my hand at making scales an I really like this look. I don't have the typical work shop like some here. But I think with the right material I can do this with just some hand tools. Thanks

Thanked: 10KIRINITE - Handle Material & Hardware
easy to work with. I used a scroll saw, belt sander, drill press, a lot of hand sanding, and a buffing wheel (white and green compound). It does not like to get hot, so slow and easy on the buffer.
