Thanked: 884Cute little W&B for a buddy
One of our wounded warriors sent this to me to see if I could straighten it out. Took a while and the silly thing nearly went out the window on several occasions. When I got it, it had a split scale on the pivot end. The pivot pin was badly bent and it was closing out in left field. It wouldn't close without spreading the scale. I unpinned it, CA'd the split and stuck the scales in mineral oil for a couple of months. Weather started getting HOT so I clamped one side then the other in my vise and let 'em stew. They straightened some but not enough. Kept messing with the damn thing and was sorely tempted to toss it across the road. It took three washers on the inside of the right scale to skew it around enough to close straight. I wasn't about to send it out like that, so I cussed and left it alone.
Had a brain fart and remembered where Neil, ( I think ) posted a vid of somebody burning scales to form them. Grabbed my Zippo, lit a smoke, and set the lighter on my anvil. Heated the problem side and bent it the direction I wanted it to go. I got lucky, IT WORKED! Every once in a while a blind hog finds an acorn.
Heated this side about and inch below the pivot.
Works like a hose now.
If the weather will stay somewhat cool, I'll get a bunch of stuff done, maybe.Last edited by Wullie; 09-15-2014 at 03:03 AM.
