One of my barbers gave me a C-Mon Super XX Peter J Michels Thursday morning. He said fix it up and its yours. A friend of his gave it to him and he in turn gave it to me.

I took the razor apart at the pivot because it looked like the beginnings of cell rot. I'm glad I did. It was cell rot.

Buffed the blade and it came up well except for where the rust was on the front of the blade. The rest looks like new. There is no hone wear - it looks like the guy put a new razor in a drawer and forgot about it.

I sanded the inside of the scales with an emery board. Worked great. Then painted the inside scales with clear fingernail polish. That will take care of cell rot in my lifetime hopefully. The other two pins are nickel/silver. Just so happens I have nickei/silver rod for the pivot end so the pins should basically match.

I was wondering how you restore a razor with wet finger nails for a minute there :<0)
The polish sounds like a great idea. Great save and hope it stays that way forever. It's a nice razor .

I saw that nail polish and file. Figured you had better put that back before she notices!

Nice Razor. Super XX is sorta scarce, I think?

Tom, didn't you post awhile back about something you had used to coat a pair of scales to hold off the cell rot ? I can't recall what it was ....... or am I dreaming ?

Yes, I soak them in 3M wet type silicone.

Yeah Bob. I guess it sort of acts like a lacquer. I used to refinish wooden golf clubs before metal woods and lacquer and polyurethane worked equally well. I wonder how CA would work for the inside of scales.

Nice looking razor. Great idea for the nail polish, let us know how it holds up.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.
