Thanked: 4207Robeson Premier resurrection
Hi gents, my first Robeson, and third pinning attempt.
Started with the above ebay snag. Tried to make a nice custom set of one piece ash scales for her.
Of course they decided to snap just when I was trying to steam and spread the 'legs', so no problem, plan B, make em with a wedge.
Opted for steel pins, washers, and wedge for appearance, and used some 1/16 black nylon washers from McMaster for the inner spacers. My thinking is one less dissimilar metal to help reduce corrosion (galvanic action) and make her easier to wipe down, right to the pin when using it. Need to try CA finishes next time as Polyurethane attracts every dust bunny in my house..
Learning with every attempt, and reading everything you gents are doing, to help my learning curve as well.
Tonight, I will hit the hones with her and see if I can remove that self inflicted frown at the heel. My buffing technique caused that I believe as going back and forth spine to edge means twice the middle travel on the blade. Next buff I will only go one direction or the other, not back and forth in one motion.
Cheers gents.

Thanked: 4207Thanks Mike.
The variable speed buffing wheels I set up make buffing easier than it ever was by hand, but created a new set of challenges regarding evenly distributed metal removal. I ended up leaving some slight pitting up at the spine for fear of losing more edge than I wanted to.
Will keep practicing though, lots of different buffs, and compounds out there to experiment with still.
;-)
Thanks again for the feedback..

Nice job on that spanish tip razor. What size wheel did you use?

Thanked: 4207I know why you are so fond of the Spanish tips now Colin, they are classically gorgeous.
I used a 6" sisal for my 80-180 grits, then 5" cottons for the 300 and up. 5" seemed to fit into the hollow ground sides better, but I think I'm going to buy some 4" wheels too so I can get more "off the edge" while working the top side edges at the spine area.
Was very tempted to flip the blade edge up to clean the last bit of pitting but just didn't want to risk it.
These things get stupid sharp again during the buffing process. No one warned me about that..:-)
