French Razor with Carved Scales
I picked up a couple of French razors for some ideas I have. This one is stamped Imbert Aine 119 R. Monmartre, Paris.
It's a Faux frameback and it worked just fine. Sanded and polished the blade. The leg of the letter "P" and the bottom of the letter "S" were missing from the word Paris so I etched them back in place.
For the scales I went with Ivory ( yes, pre ban) that I drew up a design, carved , and then scrimshawed.
The pinstripe as well as the sketch of the Cathedral of Sacre Coeur ( on Monmarte ) made a fitting subject for the face scale. It fits under a dime. For the back scale,, well being Paris,, I did the Eiffel Tower of course. It's roughly the size of a sharpened pencil point.
Since black was used for the scrim I did a black horn wedge.
The brass pins are washerless and the two in the center are merely for decoration.
