2 8/8 Dorko in giraffe bone
I had a request for a couple bone scales. The owner sent me the new blades and some Giraffe bone to use for the scales. The bone slabs were rough, real rough. Heavy mill marks, voids etc... I had to back fill some spots with epoxy to get them all leveled out for the scales.
He wanted adjustable fastiners so I dug some up out of my scale supplies. The wedges are Gabon ebony with traditional 1/16 brass rod pins and washers. I forgot how much I hated working with bone. Stinks to high heaven, much worse than horn. They got a high grit sanding a polishing to give them a nice sheen. Turned out pretty good in the end. I patterned the scales after an old Wade and Butcher set.

My thoughts are that the bone scales and black wedge go nicely with the spine and blade. The "FBU" scale shape is classic.
It seems to work well with most blades big and small, just adjust the scale for the ...er... scales!
Nice job"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

No sabe kimosabe, please elaborate for those of us with some dull edges. Hold on...just looked again and I think you are politely suggesting that the proportions are a might off of scale to blade ratio and that the razor may be sitting too low in the scales due to the thickness of the wedge......am I close Tom?

My intent was to say The shape of the FBU scales goes with lots of blades if they are proportioned to the blade.
I can agree, by your observations, the wedge may be a bit thick which would see the blade a little too deep."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

And to end on a positive note, to the OP, I think the giraffe scales turned out beautifully. Agree that the stink of bone is like a nightmare in a dental chair. Many years ago I was grinding a Sperm Whale tooth in a jewelry making class and the whole class gave me the 'stink' eye.
