    I used diamond burrs , files, X-acto knives , sandpaper etc. there is a " tutorial" in the workshop forum of others I've carved which show the steps and tools.

    The others. Just 3 more to go for my set. Then build and carve a box for them.

    The barber pole though isn't mine. Just a handy pic with the other 3 in it.

    They are lying around on most local beaches.
    These were left in the garden by the previous tenants.
    Back in the 70s nearly every home had one as an ashtray.

    Not sure what the rules are about posting them overseas? !

    Very nice! Now,... If you happen to find 2 that are perfectly flat , about 3/16" thick. 1" wide and 6" long we have to talk.

    hmmm...
    being shellfish they don't tend to be perfectly flat. There's no room for the 'meat' then
