WB in Ivory
I did nothing more with the steel than rub it well with Mother's. There are still fine pits and scratches but so much of the original finish is there I saw little reason to mess with it. Unfortunately there are two substantial cracks which I filled with CA after running it in the sonic washer for over an hour. The cracks seem to be from shrinkage. The one on the tang is very wide and neither of them would close up with pressure. I think the in the tang turned out as well as could be expected because of its width but I hoped the one in the wedge end would have lightened up more and seemed to darken a little with the glue. I even soaked it overnight in acetone to remove the CA one and reapplied it with no improvement.

I have a Haddon to do with a very similar problem

Thanked: 4826It's funny how much it shrinks over time. Raol has a beautiful seven day set by Kropp, the Ivory has shrunk back and the lead wedges stick out a tiny bit all the way around. You will have to keep an eye out for a dead razor with ivory scales. The come up on the bay periodically and tend to go fairly cheap as most people only look for a whole razor. I just finally finished my seven day set. It had two mismatched scales, and it took me quite a while to find one that are the right size. I think you can use that one as is and just be on the lookout. The blade looks pretty stellar. I think the shape of the spine is called a quill back. Looking good even with the crack.

Another odd thing was how much peening was needed to tighten the pivot. I don't know if the brass is different or has hardened some how but it took more blows to tighten it up enough than it usually takes me to do one from scratch. I might have been more cautious though.

Thanked: 2284Even with the fractures, that is one pretty razor. To me, it's a razor you just want to shave with. Again, very nice!
