Thanked: 40Outstanding workmanship on both scales! A definite upgrade from the original.
Style wise, my only critique would be that the third pin is missing. I find the third pin on the Novodur 14s kind of charming as other Filis don't have 3 pins. Regardless, those are stunning scales.

Thank you guys.
Generally on Ivory collars aren't used. As to the third pin it doesn't work well on Ivory in my opinion and since we weren't going original losing it on the horn wasn't an issue.

Thanks! Glad to be "back". With my regular work this was the summer to forget. It was pure misery .
Hopefully things are behind me and I can get back in track.

Great work, Mark! Some proper clothes for some fine blades. Fit and finish is superb, as is to be expected.

I'll take a slightly different tack on the scales. This is not a commentary of mycarver's skill which has been recognized for excellence. Rather it is the pushback on the negative view of the scales of Filly's, and I have heard it about some Japanese western razors also. To me it is about the integrity of the original razor. I don't think you can improve upon the original. Why? Because it is what the razor looked like when it left the factory. If scales need replacing I tend to like those that are closest to the originals. Specifically with regard to the Filly's...no one is going to get close to the originals, which is my point.
Attention: If scales need replacing, use whatever material you want on them."Call me Ishmael"

Thank you for the compliment. And I do understand your point. I too like restoring razors to original condition . But there are those times when you get a request such as these. The original scales were kept for the future so they could be put back together again.
But razors are in some ways like cars. Guys want to personalize them. And as with cars there was always a debate as to restore it to original condition or build a hot rod.
Hmmm. I kinda like both for different reasons.

Ahh, Bill. You just love those recycled blue Spanish detergent bottle scales, now don't you!

Ok Mark, just to address the car thing...I like restorations that are original. To me hotrods are grotesque. Having said that, I can admire the skills of the builders but not the output. I feel the same about motorcycles. So maybe it is not surprising that I feel the way I do about razor restorations.
