    Default Wm. Hargreaves & Co.

Another Sheffield maker I have not seen a lot from. I found just a few posts of his work in the forums so I thought I'd share this. According to Tweedale's Directory the business was founded by William Hargreaves 1803 - 1874. In the mid 1850's the business was restyled as Hargreaves, Smith & Co.
A gentle smiling 13/16 near wedge grind. The original horn scales were broken at the pivot. Made up some brown/honey horn scales with some smokey streaks and assembled with a lead wedge and brass beehive collars. Test shave tomorrow morning.

Very nice save! That is outstanding work. Not only great looking but now ready for another 100 years or so. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Love the blade, and those scales have a great irridescent look to them.

What kind of horn did you use and those scales may be tortoise not horn. I'm basing that theory off of the way they are fractured.

I am lucky enough to be the custodian of a couple from this manufacturer.
You have done a wonderful job of bringing this one back to life.
    Well Done

The horn is from Masecraft Supply Co. and is advertised as honey horn but sometimes shows up with the brown and smokey colors. The original scales were dyed horn. The color was only on the surface of the scales and nothing on the inside of the scales.
