    Thanks for the advice everyone I took the chip out as suggested at 30 degree angle then taped it and set bevel with my 1000 once that was done went through the progression of 3000. 5000. 8000. and finally 12000. the razor appears to be honed correctly passes HHT no problem I will give it a test shave tomorrow to see how it is.

    I'm actually pleased it happened now as I'm very new to honing and I've learned a lot repairing it. I will however be much more careful in the future.

    I think almost all of us have dinged our blades once or twice.

    Good thing is most of the time it can be fixed.

    Doing it yourself is a bonus!
