Default A Case& Sons and a A.W. Wadsworth and sons XLNT

So I picked these two up from the bay for restoration. The Case has me a bit stumped and hope that some of you with more Case knowledge can shed some light. The case is a Preparedness and has a round point, the odd thing is it seems short,as in maybe someone reground the toe.I've given it a good examination and if it was reground it was a long time ago due to the patina perfectly matching the spine. What caused me to put some thought to this is the fact that there is a large gap between the wedge and the end of the blade. Was this a common thing for manufacturers to do so all end product would be the same and packaging would be simple or has this blade been reduced in lenghth ?

My first guess is probably ground down toe, with the length being shorter than most I've seen not ground down. However, someone may have replaced the scales along the way with whatever they had....

Well I took the skales off and was just gettine ready to hit it with steel wool and I noticed it's got a crack in it starting at the edge and running toward the spine about half way on the edge, ticked is all I can say, sent the seller a message so we will see what he says.

Upon close inspection of the photo with the ruler the black dot at the edge is were the crack starts. That picture was before I did anything to it except take it from the box.
