A 10Pups Collaboration: J. Elliott Double Thumb Notch and an August Bain FrameBack
It's been awhile since I've posted up a razor restoration, and here are a couple that I collaborated with 10Pups (Jerry) on. Due to health concerns these past few months (Most recently a hand operation that has had me waylaid for awhile) I was unable to finish these two razors, and my good friend 10Pups volunteered to help me finish the job.
Before I got sidelined, I was able to finish the blade restoration, so Jerry stepped in and fashioned the scales, pinned it up and did a fine job of getting these two really nice razors all honed up. Both myself and the gentleman these beauty's will end up with thank him for his great work!
First up is a Joseph Elliott, Silver Steel, W crown R, double thumb notch circa 1830's (pre-1837). The blade is finished with crocus and a leather wheel for a soft polished natural steel look. The blonde horn scales closely resemble the originals, and it is finished with a lead wedge and domed brass collars and pins.
The picture quality is not great (my hand was none too steady!) but I think you'll see this is a really nice blade:
The second razor is an Auguste Bain frame-back (circa unknown). I finished this blade two-toned, with a satin finished blade and a brightly polished frame. Jerry scaled it in a simply beautiful brown/black streaked horn, with SS domed washers and NiAg pins:

Thanks Rez! I appreciate it...and I know Pups does as well. Although not the first time by any stretch that Pups and I have worked on things together on our own projects, this was the first time we actually 'built' a razor together. It was fun working on this the past two Sundays to get this done.Lupus Cohors - Appellant Mors !

Thanked: 4249Very nice collaboration, both razors are very elegant, well done. The Auguste Bain frameback is a great find. Mr Bain was born in 1856, he open a cutlery store in 1878.
Auguste was quite the inventor, he holds 19 patents, one of them he called a mechanical razor patented in 1880 many years before Mr Gillette 1904 patent..
Auguste Bain passed away in 1916, so now you have a somewhat timeline for this beautiful frameback.
