    Aesthetics ?
Both aesthetics and practical looks nice also makes your scales more rigid also doubles up as a stop prevents the blade moving deeper into the scales.

The original plastic scales on Austs are not so hot.
I don't have an Aust with plastic scales, but I like the Aust African blackwood.

I use to do the same thing in college. My best friend's girlfriend was an Aerobics instructor. I was the only dude at the classes. A lot of guys gave me crap about it...till they met the women I was dating from the classes!!!

And Nice work on the razor Glen.

The wood and horn scales are fine. I'm referring to the black plastic with the Solingen inlay on the side.

    Another beauty Glen!
Looks more like bone than some bone I've seen.
I love the embellishment on the third pin.
