The wedge is made from guitar pick-guard material. I have a ton of it, it's really easy to work with. If you want to try it, I'll send you or anyone who wants some free.

Apart from stability is there any reason for the third pin?

I mean it looks great but most of mine only have two, with the exception of one and that third pin always seems to hinder my clean up/drying routine. It doesn't look as good as this one does though it's really just an internal spacer on some plastic scales.

I made the scales as close to the originals as possible. The third pin is a stabilizer and shapes the scales into arches. It does not make contact with the tang.

Yes, fine job. The scales shine so much. I too am not much on the third pin and have one razor with it. And durring clean up its a bit in the way. But i know how you feel. If it had one then id probably put one back in too.
