Timahagane/Meteorite Razor with Engraving
Hello everyone,
I know I have been a bad forum member. Life has gotten in the way. I haven't been around for a long time. Hopefully that will change. I wanted to show a recent razor, and ask for some help.
First, here is the razor. The pattern welded section is Timahagane and meteorite. The edge is Timahagane. the Timahagane is smelted from Lake Superior sand. The scales are mammoth ivory. The pine cone is Copper. This was my first attempt at carving and engraving natural forms.
Here is where I am asking for a little help. I will be changing my business a lot over the next few months. I am revamping my order and deliver policies as well as marketing and social media. To that end, I will be creating a YouTube channel. The YouTube videos will be focused on shop stuff.: equipment and techniques. I want to keep the videos short and informative. So my question is, what would you like to see?
Thank you for your time and interest in my work.

Thanked: 4828Well from my point of interest I am mostly curious about your smelting process and foundry furnace or bloomery furnace. I however am likely the only one that cares about those intricate details. I am happy to go to email on that though. PM me if you want to discuss that.

Beautiful work on that razor!
I know that I would love to see a good video on going from iron sand to a billet.
Obviously, people love to see the forging process from billet to knife/razor.Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 315Hi Mr Zowada! I'm not sure if I have been active on the forum the same time as you but I really love your work. I don't know anything about razor making, so I'm sure anything would be educational. If I ever get to the point where I have my own shop I would love to try making my own knives and razors. I'm sure that is a long way (years) off though.
I did a quick search and didn't see a how to video for covered tangs. I remember a member posted one you made and it was beautiful. That is certainly something I would be interested in learning about besides the basics of razor making.
Welcome back to the forum and look forward to seeing more of your razors.- Joshua

+1 to Shaun's comment re the smelting process and furnace details. I think you're whole approach to razor and knife making is absolutely fascinating and would *love* to learn more!
BTW that is a stunning razor in your pics. Thanks for sharing it.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 3795That is utterly freakin' beautiful.
What I would like to see is exactly what you said--"shop stuff and techniques." The vast majority of us cannot dream of replicating a fraction of what you do, but we still appreciate getting to see it.

I too know nothing about razor making. Have thought about it but never did anything about it. Anything you're willing to share, I'm willing to absorb! Thank You in advance!
