8/8 WB FBU resurected as a shorty
This poor FBU had seen some abuse.
I decided to resurrect it as a shorty and see if I could make it functional again. Surprisingly there was clean steel at the edge. Two small pits still live near the middle of the bevel, but the edge is sound. I shortened the blade and scales 1/4 to 1/2 inch and repaired the scales with epoxy and powdered charcoal. I managed to mangle the wedge along the way, so that and the pins are no longer original to the blade.
The test shave this morning was a success. This razor is fun It really handles well for such a wide blade. I need to fine tune the edge a bit, but overall it turned out well.
This will never be a beauty queen but it was a fun project and I learned a lot while doing it. Thanks to all who provided knowledge to get this shaving again.O'Toole's commentary on Murphy's Law: Murphy was an optimist.

She is a bit rough looking, but if you managed to pull some clean steel to that edge you did great. Enjoy. They dont all need to be beauty queens to shave well.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 35Love the work you did! May I ask a question. It looks like you had to reshape the entire front of the blade. Did you regrind the barber's notch as well as the rounded toe?

Thanks.
Yes, I reshaped the entire front. https://sharprazorpalace.com/worksho...y-project.html post 12 shows the progression from cut off to final profile. The barber notch was put in with a dremmel stone at 5000 rpm.O'Toole's commentary on Murphy's Law: Murphy was an optimist.

Thank you again.
At a couple of points I wasn't sure it would make it. I'm glad it did, the pits and rough look have kinda grown on me.O'Toole's commentary on Murphy's Law: Murphy was an optimist.
