Thanks Pete. It's always a question with Damascus because if you go overboard with the scales, you start competing with the pattern in the steel instead of complimenting it, IMO. This is complicated by the fact that I make my scales before etching the razor, so I have an idea of how the razor will look, but I have not seen it yet.

I agree. Its like you MADE the same pattern on the scales. And with that grind... No! I can't have it!

I like the pattern on the steel, not to many layers, not too few. NIce!

Yeah, this is the one that I meant to triple to 145 layers before putting on the mono steel edge, but I forgot. Happy accident, now I know what 49 layers looks like. I'm very happy with the pattern.

What does putting on a mono steel edge mean, do you somehow attach another piece of steel to use as the edge?

Yes, on my pattern welded steel razors I forge weld on a piece of 1095 before forging out the blank. The transition ends up very close to the belly grind line where the edge is not etched.
