    Default My first scale job.

I knew my first set of scales wouldn't be as good as this forum is used to and I probably wouldn't be happy with the final product, but I decided to look at it as a learning tool.

The blade is from a broken handled Genco Army & Navy. The wood is lacewood with 6 coats of Truoil. The pins are end-annealed 15 guage brass finishing nails. The filagree are copper end caps from a local bead store.

The blade's not perfectly centered, (don't have a drill press) but the edge dosen't hit and the spacer isn't as thin as it should be.

I'll probably use it for a while and then try again and improve.

    That looks Super!

As a wannabe restorer I only hope my first set will look as nice. It's always good to see a Genco in new clothes!

The more I see lacewood used, the more I think about getting some.

    Very nice indeed.
    I like that Lacewood.

"It's a start", said Jesus, pouring water out of his shoes after his first walk on water.

    Way to go!

I'm no restorer but that looks like a fantastic first effort! Love the wood!

    Nice Razor- Nice Job

If you have a Dremel the drill press attachment will get you by. If you nip up all the adjustments they don't wobble like some claim and much cheaper than a drill press. Just don't push hard, they drill those little holes pretty quick.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
