how did you polish them like that? curious as to your process and materials? I tried polishing one I had that had some scratches perpendicular to the edge, I guess I didn't start with coarse enough paper becuase they didn't get wiped out, thinking about starting over not sure how coarse to go.

Chris uses some crazy English polishing compounds on a buffer. There's like a whole set of them. You can search around the resto. threads for his instructions. I remember them being somewhere- otherwise, he will probably chime in!

Thanked: 44These guys started at a 120 grit grinding belt on a home made bench top belt grinder. i am waiting for finer belts to arrive but for now this is as fine as I have. I just retrofitted one from spare parts with no real plan. I also use different size wood wheels with adrasives and or applied strips of sand paper on my 6" buffer so do fine grinding. Then I use some 400 grit flap wheels to even out any rough or high spots but only lightly. Then I sand from 220 grit to 800 grit to make sure it is completely level with no high spots or residual scratches. Then i polish using my 6" and 8" buffer with emory, coarse stainless, and aluminum oxide compounds. Then I use a dremmel with a soft buff and .5 micron diamond paste. And I finish with a hand polish of chromium oxide.
Could I cut it shorter... definately. But I like the results. Total time for grinding 3 hours, sanding 9-11 hours, polishing 3 hours, and then a hone.

I knew there was no way to get those results by using power tools only. Your hands must still hurt after that little project.

I stopped by Chris's house while he was finishing the last of those two and the pictures don't do the razors justice. They look even better in person. I also saw Chris's grinding & polishing setup. Very impressive. Got some good honing tips while I was there to boot.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 44Thanks for the kind words. I have decided to sell it though to pay for parts and stuff so I can be even more OCD. You can now find it on our favorite auction site, ebay under item number 220285789390 I will post that in the auction forum too.
