Bringing this post back from the great beyond. I have a razor very similar to that one in my future. I hope the scales turn out half as well as yours did.
It doesn't look like you lost any of the dye from the faux tortoise. I was afraid in the cleaning process it would wash out or off completely.

Thanked: 12A couple of you seem pretty confident that the scales are mottled horn and not bona fide tortoise shell. What is the giveaway?
I might have said they were tortoise based on appearance, but I also don't know how the razor's era compares to the ban on shell. To the contrary, I have read that the tortoise darkens with age, and those scales DO seem be on the bright side (great job bringing beautiful scales back into their prime, Leon!).

I could be wrong about the scales. I was just going on what I was told mine are and they look identical. I hope we are both wrong.

I have the same razor but mine was in even worst shape, i have been sanding it for a while with some pitting. Pitty there is a chip at the end of the spine. and my molted horn scales have warped.
