    Default Two tone scales

This was a re-scale of 2 Bengalls for a mate of mine. No work on the blades - So no pics of them

I'm sure these won't be to everyone's taste. The request was Purpleheart one side and Blackheart Sassafrass on the other. I wasn't sure about it initially but they kinda grew on me.

Pics are in different light to try & give an idea of what the finish looks like but photography's not my strong point.

It's a hand burnished oil finish. Scales were sanded to 240 grit then the oil rubbed in with progressive grits up to 2000. It's a subtle gloss but at certain angles it has a warm glow that shows the grain well & feels great to touch. The wedges are Asiatic Buffalo horn.

Hate it or love it ?

Nice job on the scales. I really like the finish. I'm not to sure about the 'Two Face" scales though niy I duess they would grow on me. Well done!

Nicely done - the scale shape and finish are really well done. I have to admit, the 2-colours aren't really to my taste, but like the French say, "Vive la difference!"

Beautiful work Os, I love the finish and the colors that it brought out in the wood I bet they look even better in person...
Now as to confusing me with the two faced scales, To each there own, but it would drive my slightly OCD brain crazy...

Beautiful scales...I bet they are really nice in person. We must be an OCD lot here at SRP because, I too, would find the contrast a bit confusing. Hopefully the blades were each a little bit different so the guy can tell the difference....but he did want them that way, so I'm sure he will be pleased. That sassafrass is quite nice, BTW.

    Default Thanx guys !

Many thanx to all for the feedback and comments.
My apologies for the disruptive colour scheme to our OCD members.

Joed ~ They do take some getting used to but I had trouble giving 'em back !

Mark ~ Scales shape was cloned from the originals & the finish was a whole lotta hand
sanding but worth the effort. Kinda relaxing too... in an RSI kinda way

Lee ~ You must be less OCD than most. BTW your cat looks like a fearsome Go player.

Glen ~ The finish is a little like the London Oil gunstock finish but takes days rather than months . The oil blend dries much quicker than Linseed. They do look better in person and the tactile aspect is something you can't photograph also.

Dave ~ The blades are slightly different so the owner won't get confused... maybe ??

No to go exercise my corpus callosum

I think it could even be helpful to see a different color in the mirror for different strokes depending on the orientation of the blade.

Now I'm getting confused ... You mean like a visual aid for blade angle ?
I'll be keen to hear the owners thoughts on that.

I mean it could be a visual reminder of how to hold the blade to shave certain areas just so. I want to see the red side when I shave against the grain here, oh yeah, it works best if I see yellow when I shave over here, meaning I need to hold the blade in the other hand, that sort of thing

or maybe I just took OCD to a whole new level?
