Default 7/8 Dovo in Indian Sambar Stag with matching silvertip brush

I have had this one sitting on the desk waiting for my attention. I cannot take credit for the scales. The owner sent them along with the blade. I just put it all together. One day I got to thinking, I bet I could make a matching silvertip brush. So with the permission of the owner I started digging around looking for someone that had a stag antler that would match the scales. Stag will run from black to brick red so finding some that would match took some time. I found a stag antler that would fit the bill, today I put it all together.

I was going to turn the brush in the lathe to sculpt it but I found a nice section of the antler that had a natural curve that saddles in the hand perfectly. I drilled out the knot pocket and sanded out the inside to smooth the sides so the edge does not cut the brush bristles up. I rolled the outer edge on the strip sander then I did some very light and tactilely planed passes on the handle. That takes some of the yellowed bark off exposing the white ivory underneath. Then a light hand sand to take out any sand marks from the strip sander and hit it with some white chromium oxide to put a little polish on the raised texture.

I think it looks like a million, wish it was mine. Guess I will have to cut a set of scales and make another brush.

That's quite the rustic looking set. I do believe I dig it.

If I owned a cabin somewhere; just a picture perfect fantasy getaway, THAT set up would be waiting for me each morning! Very cool and great job!

Exactly the right setting for this set up! Early morning shave followed by fly fishing (or something similar), riverside lunch, back home for drink & cigar of choice...

That's awesome! I have to squirrel that away in my "I'll do that too one day" list that you guys have me constantly updating!

Awesome job, though, Cannonfodder! Was it difficult to source the stag antler?

I have spent a week at 11,000 feet in 20 below weather living in a tent, that trumps a cabin on the rustic scale. But alas, they will be leaving soon.

I do see a set or two in the future for my collection. The stag is very heavy, almost too heavy for the blade. A big wedge would balance out a little better but it is not too bad.
