That wood is beautiful and you did a great job bringing this out. I know what you mean about sunshine being the best for photographing wood grain.

That is simply amazing! I have never seen such a beautiful grain pattern in a set of scales before. Definitely a keeper!

Wish I could keep it but it is going back to Japan tomorrow. I do have some curly maple that is very similar. Going to make a few more sets tonight.

When I found that piece of wood I was so excited. There was another peice being sold in the same bin that I also got. It is a little different but just as figured, not as uniform but very figured.

There is enough here to make a couple of shaving brush handles or set of scales for a number of razors. I have yet to decide what to do with it.

I have to make a clarification on the wood type. It is 'Tochi' or 'Tochinoki' in Japanese not 'Kuri'.

Tochi is a designated horse chestnut native to Japan and often takes on these highly figured grain patterns. Although it is quite light, weight wise, as Dave mentioned above. 'Kuri' the tree that produces chestnut fruit is not like this and will be rather plain looking grain pattern.
