Default Dovo in curly Japanese Chestnut amazing wood

This one is truly stunning. One of the nicest peaces of wood I have seen in a while. Nature did all the hard work on this one, I just drove the bus. This is a 5/8 round point Dovo that has been given a home in some curly Japanese Chestnut. The scales are a bit thicker than I normally make them but the wood is so light and delicate they needed to be extra thick. The scales have a coat of epoxy resin finish which really makes the rolling grain pop out. I usually go with two washers but being a 5/8 razor the scales are a bit smaller to match the blade. The wood is so nice I did not want to detract from its appearance so I used a single brass washer with a 1/16 inch brass rod for the pin. I thought an Ebony wedge would counter balance the light natural wood.

The blade got a hone last night, a shave test today and is ready to go back to the owner. Where do you get curly Japanese Chestnut? From Japan, which is where the wood and razor came from. I am going to shut up now and stare at the photos more. The photos don't do the actual product justice, you have to move the razor in your hands in the sunlight to watch the curl roll up and down the wood.

Stunning. Normally I'm not a wood scale fan (horn and composites I prefer for some reason). The beautiful scales you've made look like they were made for that razor to a perfect match. Beautiful. Thanks for showing those!
