This razor is mine by the way, I am really excited about it!!
When I found that piece of wood I was so excited. There was another peice being sold in the same bin that I also got. It is a little different but just as figured, not as uniform but very figured.
Here is a cell phone shot of the other lump that I got (19 cm by 6.3 cm by 5.2 cm).
Front and Back Dry
And then Front and Back wet to bring out the grain a bit more.
There is enough here to make a couple of shaving brush handles or set of scales for a number of razors. I have yet to decide what to do with it.
I have to make a clarification on the wood type. It is 'Tochi' or 'Tochinoki' in Japanese not 'Kuri'.
Tochi is a designated horse chestnut native to Japan and often takes on these highly figured grain patterns. Although it is quite light, weight wise, as Dave mentioned above. 'Kuri' the tree that produces chestnut fruit is not like this and will be rather plain looking grain pattern.
I can't wait to shave with this beauty!!
Thanks again Dave.Last edited by ZethLent; 02-12-2009 at 12:28 AM.
