Now there's an idea for a birthday present !
Great work as always Max.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

I looked! I couldn't stand it!
My will power gave out and I had to look, then having looked I had to open it.....Max you are the greatest!
Let me start by saying that I have an obsessive compulsive personality. I notice EVERYTHING, drives my wife, friends, self and coworkers crazy sometimes (wife often times). That said, the ONLY thing I can find wrong with Max's work is....his pictures although great do not fully capture the beauty of his work!
I have been admiring his work and talking to him about getting one of mine worked on for a long time. What you can't get from pictures is that 3rd dimension. this material has DEPTH man, the figure is mesmerizing and being able to hold it and move it you can really appreciate the way the light plays through the scales. the spacer is absolutely perfect, everything flush, smooth, all contours lined up precisely.
I did forget how big this thing was, out of the scales I didn't really notice. I measured the cutting edge at 1/64" shy of 3". And I was surprised that the balance point is only maybe 3/16" of an inch from the pivot pin. it just hung in the air on my finger. One of the things I admired about Max work was the fact that his scales are always very elegant, never clunky or over sized. Looking at it I really would have expected it to be out of balance (and not been bothered by it mind you, aesthetically it is spot on) so how he made this happen is just more magic.
He must coat his polishing wheels in mojo man, cause when this left me it looked NOTHING like I got it back.
Max my most heartfelt appreciation man, this is already going to be the best birthday in years.
Red
PS
He warned me he may not be able to get that curved toe as sharp as he'd like. I did my normal test on the almost bald left hand, that toe shaves great!

This thread reminded me that I had offered to post something about Red's integrity and honesty. I think this is as good place as any to do so. Man, happy birthday and know that people here in this forum respect you for these 2 qualities.
And Max, once again, this is excellent work. I absolutely love your scales. I have always had a soft spot for tortoises ;-).

Thanks very much Al, I appreciate that. i try.
I have not cheated, I have looked at the pics a lot, but other than opening the box and looking at it once I've kept it under wraps. but I have structured my morning around shaving with it, my wife knows the schedule for tomorrow. I get up, make pancakes for the kids, then she keeps them away while I take my shower and then shave with this baby. I have not shaved since Wednesday
