Thanked: 51Thanks, the dark scales are Peruvian Walnut and the lighter ones are Curly Maple both have Lyptus spacers.
I just picked up some Lacewood, Kempas and Jatoba to make some more.

Thanked: 51Max, the Maple came from the scrap pile from my fireplace remodel and the Walnut came from my neighbors scrape pile. The finish is Minwax Satin poly. I used 5 coats and rubbed between coats with 0000 steel wool. Then a light coat of Lemon Oil.
Also, both scales are book matched so the grain of the wood follows the same pattern on both sides. I used a bandsaw and re-sawed the wood and had the pieces marked so as the only loss of grain pattern was the kerf of the blade.Last edited by turbine712; 09-09-2009 at 01:23 PM.
