Thanked: 14First DA mod...
Hey Guys,
So this is my first razor mod from start to finish. I stole a lot of ideas from you guys, especially Seraphim. I didn't mean for it to go that direction, but as it was my first time using the dremel on a razor, I wanted to see what all the different attachments could do. It is also my first attempt at pinning.
This one will go to my buddy that brought my hones and strop from the US to China for me. The future mods will be simpler. Probably no spine work. Just changing the points and maybe a thumb-notch. So, here it is.
A Double Arrow with ebony scales and a bone wedge. Balance is great.

Thanked: 137Very nice! Well done, I can't see any areas that need improving, so I think you're off to an excellent start with razor mods. Is this your first resto as well? If so, you should enter it in the contest for sure!

Thanked: 14Thanks for all the kind words gentlemen. Yes, this is my first mod. I had worked on some horn scales before, but there was some issues with the material. I still have them, I just need to find a way to fill in some of the gaps where the striations delaminated.
Anyway, I have started some bone scales for the razor that I was going to use the horn on. An old 1920s Kropp. If it turns out ok, I may post that one in the contest. I feel like I took a lot from some of the other guys on this DA mod, and the credit for this razor belongs to them. So, thanks again for all you fellas out there posting up your work and tutorials. It made it much easier for a newbie like me on my first razor.
Oh, and in regards to the pinning, I just want to make the brass shinier. Also, it is kind of strange, the blade is tight as you can see when it as 0-45 degrees and about 150-200 degrees, but quite loose everywhere in between. I have tried tightening the pins by tapping to no avail. I think it may be because the tang tapers toward the bottom slightly, but I would really like to get it tight throughout. Any suggestions, would be appreciated.Last edited by Shangers; 12-07-2009 at 03:28 AM.

Thanked: 14Hehe... You know they have no respect for IP over here in China.
Didn't have a chance to shave with it. Took it to the hones and strop and got it to pass the HHT. Was getting ready to test it when the management company came by. Got stuck watching them all morning cut out part of the wall because of some leaking.
Headed to the office mid-day and figured I would go ahead and take it in for my friend. Just gave it to him about 2hours ago. He said he was going to go home and put it to the test. Will be his first straight razor shave, so I told him to stop by the forum and get to reading the tutorials first.
He doesn't have much facial hair. Just mustache and chin, but I don't want him cutting his lip off. Hopefully he will be happy with it, but he is just using a Mach 3 now, no soap, cream, or even water. I gotta imagine this will be a step up regardless.
Thanks again to all.Last edited by Shangers; 12-07-2009 at 12:00 PM.
