Very nice, as always, glen. Never seen Zircote scales before. And i def. dig the tri-pin and the balance shot. (I've ordered up some nice woods, cocobolo, a burl or two, olivewood, from a great wood dealer I found and am going to try my hand at custom scales starting next week when they arrive - and though I'm kinda worried, I'm telling you this right here is either a reason not to try or a pretty good benchmark to aim for, depending on how you look at it...)

    GO FOR IT !!!!!!

But I warn you it is a slippery slope,, that Restore Monkey clings hard to yer back my friend

Try these guys too www.bellforestproducts.com they actually started to plane wood to 1/8" just for us Razor guys and if you can't rip your own it sure is easy... If you can rip blanks then their 1.5 x 1.5 x 6 inch pieces are what I use you get to match and bookend them that way...

(I have no affiliation with these guys, I just appreciate great service)

thanks for the tip, glen (i've heard good things about them. it is annoying how all the knife scale blanks out there are cut to 5" or 5.5", just too short :0 I can also reccommend the places I got wood from, both were stellar guys to deal with and custom-cut me some beautiful wood, houseofburl.com - though I didnt get burls from him, just hardwoods - and australianburls.com) and for the encouragement. I might just have to take that as license to ask your for help when I'm waist-deep in twisted wood bits.

but I've got WAY too much wood on the way, I think, and I was able to get it cut to 1/8". that is not the problem at the moment. and I'm not worried about the finsihing as I've done enough wood refinishing/restoring in the past. I'm just worried about the shape - whether I'll be able to get that right (and I don't just want to imitate the shape of the original scales for each razor, since part of the point is to move on from the "elongated blob" and toward something more like the shape you've got here, or the angular T-I shape - and also about getting the wedge right.

ps - oh, the monkey is already on my back, burrowed under the skin more like it - *that's* what let to the scales project
