Actually, Mike got it. It's the sword bone from a swordfish.
It's very hard, takes an amazing polish, is completely waterproof and has a beautiful grain.

Nice blades and unusual scale material.
I bet they shave as nice as my RW razor too.

awwww, he beat me to it! I almost bought a big chunk of it in the antique store the other day, but they wanted almost as much as you can get it for fresh off the internet and it had a crack in it. They were even advertising it as whalebone. I left it for the next sucker.
I didnt know you could dye it though. That is Really neat! Great job all around.

So you can shave with the scales or the razor? Dual purpose, I like it.
