the blade is thin on the edge, but not honed just yet, i'm waiting till i have time to finish the scales ect to hone

harner, your work is great. your grinds are super consistent, do you freehand grind or use a jig? also any reccomondation on wheel sizes to use?
Congratulations Dana, that's a beautiful blade, and you've certainly got everyone's attention. I'll be very interested to see what form the scales take: it's a nice problem solving opportunity in my opinion.

I think most "razor guys" grind freehand. I do. If you get into anything more than a straight grind, you'll need to. It makes things easier in the long run to not have to rely on a jig.Quote:

learning free hand in the long run is much better and thats how i do it. all that said if you were going to be producing more then 100 a month in the same style a jig might be fitting
also if you are going to etch like that (nice and deep ) its a nice look. you may want to resist near the edge so that honing is easier
Awesome. Wish I had the facilities to try making a blade myself!. You could do some beautiful things with regards to getting the ball tang to pass through the scales, Im thinking a channel cut at the same radius with a ball nosed dremel bit would be a nice detail. Thanks for sharing it.
