Great work, Dana :bow
The grain of the steel is very nice. But one personal thought. It seems, that you cut the shape from the razor (the tang) from a square blank. If you are blacksmithing your steel by yourself, why you dont forging the razor near the endshape? In my eyes the different grain in the tang show, that the razor not "only" was cutted stock removal from a buyable piece of damascus steel and is realy hand forged.
But perhaps this is only a personal preference from me...
Welcome to SRP. That is some very nice work.
As to the comments about the ball: I guess it won't be a problem if you make room for the ball on the inside of the scales, like a fuller. With a bit of effort it won't even look bad.
Very nice work! I wish my first had went so well. The skills you have developed will benefit you for many years to come.

funny story here. what i posted is actually the 2nd attempt at a razor. what happened was (this is embarrasing) after i did the tight twist i had to forge it back into a rectangle, and the line of where my mild steel handle stopped and my damascus started was lost. i saw an spot in the steel where i thought to myself, "oh, that's my mig weld, i'll cut it off near here." and i wanted to be surpised when i etched it to reveal the pattern so i hollow ground it , filed the tang and THEN dipped it in the ferric chloride for the first time, only to find that half of it was mld and half damascus, i was bummed, but i laughed it off. SO because it was the end of the semester i had to start another, where i didnt have tme too forge the tang like i did before. so in the interest of time i just need the shape so i could get back to work and finish in time. so yes, it lacks as much forging as the original had, but this is most certainly not a store-bought billet. i ended up with a a 2inch damascus blade which i made into a japanese style razor, i can post that if you guys want to see.
Very well done razor. I like the look of your damascus pattern. If you ever want someone to give you an objective opinion I'd be more than happy to shave a few times with the razor :D.
Yeah what do we look like some kind of crazy razor enthusiasts or something? POST IT!!!!!!!!! :mace::mace::mace:
That blade is very cool looking, I find the work on the tang and monkey tail catches my eye the most.
A gorgeous razor, but I can't help but think... Won't that bulb at the end make it rather difficult to craft scales that will allow it to fold into the generic "shaving" angle?
Other than that though, abdolutely beautiful work!
