That is a very, very nice blade, especially for your first effort. You'll need to carve a groove in your scales to let the ball-end of the tail pivot through, but it looks pretty sweet. I've thought once or twice about doing something similar just for fun...

Did you forge the ball on, or weld or solder it?

thanks josh, the ball is just filework. it's the same diameter as the spine of the razor so it's the long taper that makes it pop out. the razor is fully functioning now and passes right thorugh the scales. i only had to carve a tiny bit and i added some nickel washers just to give it a tad more clearence, on the last page there are fully asembled pics. your work is real cool as well. is that a texture on some of your razors or is that a patina?

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like you didn't put any taper to the spacer - it should have wedge shape and that ensures proper tension when opening/closing the razor.
Looks rather nice though.

actually by luck on mine it squeezes right where the shoulder of the grind ends, so it grips it at the start of the tang, keeping it shut, and the rivet is tight enough there so it wont flop around too much. it was my first one and i didnt have anything to model it after. there are many things i'll do differently for the next ones

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed your thread. Your work is very nice. I'm sure that if you thought of working with steel as a hobby or full time could be rather lucrative. You have a natural gift and I sure hope that you intend on pursuing razor making...I'm sure that others would agree. Thank you again for sharing.
