For a first you did extremely well. It will only get better. You managed to throw in some design in your scales and nicely get a dual peening going which is not easy the first time around.

Your scales are overpowering in comparison to your blade so moving forward I would concentrate on trying to get a perfect size, balance and refinement going between your scales and blade. These are adjustments in your design and hand skills that come as you go and is nothing to worry about. Don't forget, this was your first. Something to be proud off!

in hindsight i have to agree with all that the scales are to big, they would probably look better with a 9/8 razor. i have a piece of bamboo that came off the end of one of my cutting boards im gonna use next, and then some red oak with a poplar wedge, so well see how everything goes next.

I actually don't mind the size of the scales. The only thing I could suggest is that I think the scales would look better with a nice coat of varnish on them.
